or is that like trying to save them to a CD, which is impossible without third party software?

I ask because I am trying to save the shadowcopy files through the backup utility, and when I get to the screen that says where to save the file, I get the following error:

"The backup file name could not be used.
I:\BACKUP\backup.bkf
Please ensure it is a valid path, and that you have sufficient access."

I is a mapped network drive. The permissions have been double-checked.
I also tried by setting up the drive in My Network Places, and by going through the entire network.
Every time I browse, I can go right to the folder, but when I click NEXT, that's when the error comes up.
This also happens on one of my W2K servers.

This method works on my SBS 2003 server, that's what confuses me.

Thanks,
Corie

Forget the last post. I guess I should have read the whole question more carefully.

I figured it out while I was trying to get the backup to go to ANY drive, not just the one I set up.

Once I mapped the drive to the administrative drive (I$) instead of the share(I), everything worked fine.

Thanks for the help!

Ah, yes...I see. I thought there was something wrong with what I was looking at when you said you couldn't backup to a mapped share. My whole world crumbled around me and I thought everything I learned was a lie. Ok, not quite THAT bad...

HA HA HA!
You should have seen me when I couldn't get the thing to work!

Well, now we all know. :)
