We have two exchange servers called mail1 and mail2 both have exchange 2003 with SP2 being installed. mail1 had been runing for a while and we would like to move all the mail boxes to the new server mail2 very soon. However I have problem sending e-mail out from the mail server2 to outside but I can recieve e-mail externaly with no problem.

Mail1 is set to be the Master and mail2 is set to be a memebr in exchange properties. I have checked SMTP configuration on both servers and they are identical.

i have moved one of the mail boxes from mail1 to mail2 server but I can not send e-mail out however i can recieve e-mail from outside without any problem. here is NDR messages that I am getting. Any help or advise would be appriciated.

There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator.
<mail2.domain.org #5.5.0 smtp;553-you are trying to use me [server-14.tower-140.messagelab>

the mail1 server has been used as a bridgehead between both mail servers, I am not sure but I think the problem is down to our pix firewall not letting the mail go out to the smart host!

Can you establish a telenet session between your exchange server and your smarthost in the DMZ?
e.g. telnet smarthost 25
