Can not send attachments

I have a situation on one PC where a user can not send a Word or Excel document directly. She must go into Outlook to send the document because when she tries to send a document directly, the setup screen for Internet mail displays.

Discussing this matter here, I have been told this is a new security feature via Microsoft. I do not believe that since other PCs allow for direct mail of attachments.

What I need is to determine why Internet mail is coming up and a way to prevent it. Secondly, determine if I am being told bad information.

Perhaps Outlook is not the default email client.

To check, launch Internet Explorer, choose Tools > Internet Options and go to the Programs tab.
