When trying to set up a Windows XP (Professional) machine to log on to a domain I receive the following message:

"The following error occurred attempting to join domain "Civescorp":
The sepcifiec domain either does not exist or could not be contactd."

I am able to ping the domain server and map drives on the domain using "net use".

I have two other XP machines that logon to the domain fine and I have tried to duplicate their settings but still no luck.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is that client using the right DNS servers address. It joins the domain by looking for the domains FQDN. If it cant resolve that name it cant find the domain to join. You can in the advanced settings of TCP/IP set the preferred DNS servers IP address.
