My friend has a Hewlett Packard computer and recently has problems connecting to the internet. They can not use the web or e-mail. They tried the disk from Hewlett Packard to restore factory settings, this did not help. I had the same problem on my computer (hybrid) and decided to do a fresh install, everything now works OK. I did reinstall windows from DOS, this did not help. I do not wish to do a fresh reinstall on my friends computer, so would appreciate some assistance in solving the problem.
1/ They can dial into their ISP. 2/ There is a carrier signal. 3/ Pick up the phone and you can hear noise. 4/ Reinstalled Dialup network. Reinstalled TCP/IP. 5/ Checked the dialup settings. This does not seem like an isolated problem as I do now of other people experiencing the same problem, they like me did a fresh install. There must be some file(s) that are corrupted or something installed has made the change.
I would appreciate some advise in correcting the problem.
