Hi
I have the 3 month trial version of SQL Server 2000. I just want to learn the product and at this stage I am not planning to use the product in a commercial environment or as a Developer for some time.

If I install the product now, when it expires can I re-install it on the same machine? Would I have to re-image my PC or re-install everything from scratch to get around the expiry problem?

I suppose this may breach the EULA which I haven't read yet.

What if I have 2 copies of the trial version (if I buy the other guide book)? Would this entitle me to install it again on the same box?

Thanks for your help.

Just find a copy of MSDE. If it's not on a product disc for Office or other MS product, it's really inexpensive. It is everything you need to learn T-SQL and SQWL Server. MSDE is the desktop, single user version of SS.

I think you'd have to reimage the machine to reinstall.

I doubt that you'll be able to reinstall the trial version without reformatting your entire hard drive and reinstalling the OS as well. Lately MS has been sticking activation dates, etc. deep into the registry files to prevent what they consider piracy and re-installation of trial software.

Follow the advice of travisbrown & George. That should get you what you want without hours of heartbreak wiping and redoing your box.

Depending on the version of office, you may actually have MSDE 7, the equivalent of SQL Server 7. The download I pointed you to is for MSDE 2000, the equivalent of sql server 2000.

If your office disk contains MSDE 7, then I recommend you download MSDE from microsofts site.

I've actually got Office XP. I think the 2002 version not 2003. So I assume the MSDE I have will be fine.

I will have a look at this in detail in a few weeks time as I'll be sunning it in Queensland.
