Can I pass a variable from the open event in a report to

How can I pass a variable from the open event in a report to the report itself. The query for the report already has a couple of inner joins and a union. It is really complicated for me. Now my user needs some additional information that I need another query to calculate.

I then have to use that information in a math formula on the report to come up with the final result.

I have similar reports. I simply create a subreport within the main report and render the visible property to NO. Then make reference to that subreport when doing your calcs.
