You could give an admin account rights to all the mailboxes at the top level. Users wouldn't know.
However if he does this without setting out a clear privacy statement, i.e. we reserve the right to read all your e-mails without notice, he is leaving your company open to massive lawsuits if users find out. Most legal systems are ok with business e-mail accounts being open to management but employees MUST be told about it beforehand.
You should really have an acceptable use policy for users and also one stating what management can and cannot do.
DG659, Boss or no Boss, he AND you can get in serious trouble for doing this.
If the Boss does not cares, so be it, but at least protect yourself by getting this request in WRITING and SIGNED by your Boss. Make hime VERY aware of the issue and ask him to grant you at least that.
If he does not, tell him it is not possible without them knowing.
Also, you should be aware that if you do it as outlined by ntinlin, if someone sends an email with read receipt, and your Boss opens it, the receipt WILL go back!!
