Dear all,

I have W2K and share with more than 2 person with thier own 'My Documents'. But it by default it installed at C:. I have 2 partion of HD C: and D:
Can I move thier 'My Documents' folder to D: so if they login with thier user, the document folder will be ponting to D: (at specific folder).

Thank you in advance.

Yes You can change the directory.

If you do a right click on the My Documents folder you will see properties. Look in properties and you can change the directory in there.

If you have Windows 2000 Domain, you can set up my documents folders under a Group Policy.

Hope this helps.

Yes Surfk4t, it work, thank you.

Well, one more problem, Can I make it move by default ?
I mean, this W2K prof connect with NT Domain. If new user login from this W2K, this computer will be make new profile and store the login user profile to 'c:\Document and Setting\username' (such as My Document, Desktop, etc...)

Can I make it move to drive D: by default?

Thank you in advance.

You can use either Domain Group Policies or local group policies.

To get to the local policies. Go to the Run command and enter gpedit.msc this will open up a wealth of info!

cheers

Thank's Surfk4t, your help really solved my problem. Thank you very much.

I tried using group policy to do this however My Documents still points to the local drive, is something overriding my policy or something?

Hello

Where did you apply the group policy, at the client or domain level? If you have any domain policies they can overide the local policies(client). Make sure you applied the policy to the user\s.

Hope this helps?

Hi

The Group policy is applied to an OU that contains further OUs for each group of users, does this not get inherited by the child OUs are do I need to create links to the group policy in all OUs? Also, if the default domain policy is present are you saying it will over-rule the group policy set to the OUs? Do I simply delete the default domain policy then?

Many thanks for your reply and help

Do not delete the default group policy!

Have you tried the Group Policy on one OU contain only User accounts? When I create any new group policies I try and get it working in a simple AD hierarchy first.

Create a new group policy and just see if it s works on your account for instance. Its quite hard for me to comment on your network.

Group Policy inheritance is a tricky subject! I have had to play around a bit to get things working correctly.

If you are trying to set the Group policy at an Enterprise level, you need to make sure the policy is set at that level.

For what I can remember, inheritance permissions are passed down the AD tree.

Sorry I can not help further.

Busy trying to get Arcserve working!!

Cheers

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

I have a test account within the OU and then several child OUs which are name related to departments my staff work within.

I will keep playing as like you I have noticed that getting other GPO things working is a bit of a work of art with inheritance etc.

Cheers and good luck with Arcserve, had all sorts of problems with 2000, we are now in process of moving over to Veritas.
