I clone a database by shutting down A and doing a full *.dbf copy to another instance B on another server.
I then recreate the B control file and start the instance.
Now I want to put logging on instance A and not on B.
Can I still do my clone this way by just specifying NOLOGGING on the B startup ?

what exactly are you meaning archivelog or tablespaces in logging mode?

I'm talking about archive logging.

yes then in the create controlfile statement simply spacify nologging.

also make sure that log_archive_start=false on db B.

NB. you can do a hot copy/refresh with your database up if you have the env the same. If you need details i have a doc i can e-mail you which i wrote for our junior dba's
