I am configuring a mobile workstation running Windows XP Professional to connect to my network via VPN. This workstation is running Outlook 2003 connecting to my exchange server and Outlook 2003 relies heavily on DNS to work properly. If I do not configure the workstation with my internal DNS server in Windows XP TCP/IP then Exchange access from the Outlook client is so slow that it is unusable. If I statically assign my internal DNS address in TCP/IP properties it works great! The down side of this is now internet will not work because since my internal DNS is statically assigned windows does not obtain the ISP’s DNS servers automatically. Is there a way to have both so that I can statically assign my internal DNS address and also still obtain the ISP DNS addresses automatically?
