Is the .xml file on my USB flash device required for the devices operation. If i delete it will i still be able to use/access the device. It is a standard USB flash disk. The xml file contains the following text-

- <DeviceInfo>
<WMP DeviceID="{39C4528B-A7A2-4B67-9EB4-5F1D3EB55309}" RelationshipID="{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}" />
</DeviceInfo>

Yes you can delete it without any problem whatsoever...

I want to encrypt the device but this will destroy the file. I need to know if the xml file operates the device or is just info.

The file is for media player and can be happily deleted. You probably had some mp3's on there before. You can just do a quick fat32 format and you will have a clean drive ready to encrypt.
