Can I change OWA into a custom portal?

Hi all. I have been using Exchange and Outlook for quite a few years, but have just started using OWA and Exchange 2003 (SP1).

Can I modify the OWA to look more like a portal? For instance, I would like to have the user signon and be presented with a page that has a small calendar, last few messages, maybe a task or 2, etc. Kind of like Outlook Today in the Outlook clients.

Can I do the above, or am I looking at a brand new application that I would have to develop with WebDav?

Any help would be appreciated.
