Hi,

We have Exchange5.5 on NT4.0. Domain is registered as company.co.in

Current Scenario: Receiving and Sending mails using @company.co.in doamin name.

Wanted Scenario: Same as above and also want that Exchange server would fetch mails from an catch all account that is with one of the ISP's and distribute that mail to the respected mailboxes.

Thanx in advance.

So you want to download emails from an account (which has mail forwarded to it from several accounts)?

Is this email for 1 or more domains?

These emails are for a single domain.

Okay, please give more details though.

Do you want exchange to get emails from 2 POP3 accounts then, the original one and the account with mail being forwarded to it?

Hi Grenage,

The setup that we had is like this:

We have our domain registered company.co.in
We have a lease line and our own DNS serverwith the MX record in it. So, we are getting mails directly to us and not routed from any ISP.

We want a backup thing for our mail system, like if our lease line goes down for a while our mails bounces back. We don't want those mails to be bounce back.

We are planning to have some web space with one of the ISP's as a backup for storing mails for that particular point of time.

Now we want that Exchange should function as it is doing and also fetch the mails(which are stored there in case our lease line goes down) from that catch all account that was created with the ISP.

Is there anything in the Exchange that it can also download the mails from Catch All account and distribute to the respected mailboxes?

I hope now u can get the idea what I want to say.

PSingh,

What you need is an MXBackup. Contact your ISP about setting one up for you. You'll need to set up a backup MX record with a lower priority than your current MX record. They can help you with that, too. They usually charge a small monthly fee for the Backup MX feature.

What this will do is if your ISP detects that it cannot contact your email server (either it being down or your internet connection being down) it will queue all your email and then ping your email server's IP until it responds and then send all the queued mail.

Hope this helps,
J

PSingh,

I understand now. Well we use E.F.S (stands for Email Forwarding System I recall) here and are very pleased with it.

It's basically a POP connector and will connect to a specified mail account at specified intervals, download all mail then forward it to the exchange server, which sorts it as it would normally.

It's free with the basic options and 1 domain, and a small fee if you want to use it for multiple domains and have advanced features. It sounds like the free version would do you fine.

Microsoft do have a POP connector they themselves made but it will only work on the Small Business Server edition of Exchange.

Hope That Helped.
