A simple question with, possibly, a simple answer. I want to use a USB2 External Hard Drive on my USB1 computer. Is there likley to be any problem except that it will be slower, which doesn't bother me?

And, to take it a stage further, is ALL USB1 and 2 kit compatable, or not?

Many thanks in anticipation of your help.

Eric

First question: slower yes! but did you realise by how much?

USB1.1 is 12Mbps (note* mega bits per second)
USB2.0 is upto 480Mbps (that's around 60 megabytes per second)
So for devices such as external hard drives the older interface really is one hell of a restriction.

Second question: pretty much so but as I said, some hardware that requires large data through put will be seriously compromised.

Many thanks, Martin. I certainly didn't realise there was such an amazing speed difference. Must seriously consider updating my system - I keep putting it off!
