We are a small shop that has the luxury of being able to do a full backup every night of our data and files. We would like to do a monthly backup that includes files that were deleted during the month. In looking at the Veritas documentation, it doesn't seem like this is an option, but I thought I had heard somewhere that you could do it. Does anyone know if this is possible?

So, if a file is created on the 3rd of the month and deleted on the 10th, then it would be on the nightly full backups from the 3rd through the 9th, then drop off subsuqent backups. What we would like is for the file to also be on our monthly backup as we are only keeping 2 weeks of the nightly full backups.

Any insight would be appreciated.

You would probably need to run a Daily job every day on seperate tapes. Once the file is delete it the logic is its now longer needed so ..?
You looking at more of archving product.
Have you looked at Backup Exec 10d with CPS it may be a solution.
You could run a Daily job to a cheap Backup to disk device then at the end of the month duplicate it and append it to the FULL

What you are thinking of is Synthetic backup - but it doesn't use Full backups after the first full backup - it uses incremental.

Though CPS may be an option for you.

Thanks Justin - I just saw the synthetic option described on the Veritas site. I suppose based on the small size of our company, we could just do a simple full backup to start every month, then do incrementals throughout the month. We were just trying to avoid a lot of incremental tapes.

Good input tho. Thanks again.
