I have an old Dbase IV database I need to convert to Access. It runs in dos. It also contains file types .PRF and .NDX
I know nothing about Dbase IV. I seem to be able to import the dbf files but none of the others. Is there any way to import the whole package?

Thanks in advance for the input.

Bob

Hi

As you have discovered, you can link to the data files (ie the dbf files), which equate to Acecss tables, you can then if you wish make append queries and import the data into Access.

The ndx files are indexes, no need to import them, but you may wish to review the table structure imported into acess and assign appropriate 'native' indexes.

There is no way I know of to import the code, and forms etc from dbase (if I remember correctly, it is a long ime ago!, the .prf file(s)) Regards

yes (re the code), ... but dbase "language" is also based on BASIC, so much of it is reasonably 'understandable', and could give you some insight as to who/what/when/where/how of the overall app. As far as I recall, the dbase stuff is reasonably easy to hack, even if you don't have dbase installed.
