I think this is strange.

I’ve got two laptops connected with a crossover cable. XP-Pro on one and XP-Media Center on the other. I’ve set one IP address to be 192.168.100.5 on Media Center PC and 192.168.100.10 on the other laptop.

I can ping one direction. Pro to Media Center but not the other way. I reversed The crossover cable and have the same results.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening are appreciated.

Thanks,
BobLenard

Is any firewalling set up to allow/block ICMP packets (pinging)?

How are things if you test under "Safe Mode with Networking"?

Remember to Share some folder so the computers can see each other.

While I had Window Firewall turned off. It was
Windows Live OneCare that stopped local ICMP,etc.
(not my computers!)

Thanks,
