When I had a PC with XP Pro I just plugged my Fuji 2600z camera in, the model was detected and then I could download photos from the Camera & Scanner Wizard that would automatically appear.

I now have a PC with XP Home SP1 and nothing happens. When I plugged the camera in the bubble appeared to say a Fujifilm camera had been recognised, but it doesn't show the model number and there's nothing listed under Scanners and Cameras in the Control Panel (it did show up in the USB category of Device Manager once I installed updated drivers, but how come I didn't have to do this with XP Pro?).

When the camera is connected it shows up as another drive in My Computer and I can access the photos through there, but I miss the convenience of the Wizard.

How can I get the camera to be recognised properly and for the Wizard to work too?

Many thanks. Visit my ice hockey site at:

not sure i understand completely... your saying that it is working..created a drive letter...can access the data.... what part are you missing? the software that you use prior to retrive the pictures?

When I plug my camera in a box should appear (much like you get if you insert a CD into a CD drive) asking me what I want to do. One of the options should be to transfer photos to the PC using the Scanner & Camera Wizard.

Since having the new PC with XP Home rather than Pro this box does not appear when I plug the camera in (I get it when I put in a CD, though) and there doesn't seem to be any way of accessing the Wizard. To retrieve my photos I have to manually get them via My Computer, which I shouldn't need to do.

Something definitely isn't quite right because on XP Pro the computer recognised my camera as being a Fuji 2600 Zoom, but XP Home is just saying Fujifilm camera, not specifying exactly what it is. Although it appears under USB devices nothing whatsoever shows under Scanners and Cameras in Control Panel, which is probably why nothing at all happens when I plug the camera in, whereas if I put a CD in one of the CD drives, for instance, a box appears asking me if I want to play the CD, open a folder, take no action etc. Visit my ice hockey site at:

1. have you check fuji site for updated xp drivers?
2. as far as the wizard goes let me see if i can find anything on it, i know that after i installed roxio direct cd with the updates it added that program into that wizard as one of the option i could use when i put a blank cd in, so im thinking that the lastest drivers might take care of this especially since the hardware wizard didnt seem to find tha model number

Yes, I downloaded/used the XP USB driver for my camera model, but I don't really see how it can just be a driver issue because, as I said, I had no problems whatsoever with this camera when I had a computer with XP Pro (either before or after Service Pack 1). On that PC the camera's model number was recognised and I was always given the option to view/download my photos using the Wizard that's built into XP.

The Fuji site had updated versions of its Exif Viewer software etc, but I didn't download those as XP should be letting me view my photos with its Wizard instead of making me install extra software that I previously didn't need!

I have a spanking new PC now (top of the range, 3.06ghz processor!) and although it has XP Home rather than Pro I still feel it should be capable of recognising my camera properly. I hope you can find some info for me - thanks! Visit my ice hockey site at:

Just a little thought on this very confusing issue!! When you install a camera you usually get software on a CD that you can manage your pictures from if you have this try using it, it might help a bit....

Yes, I do have such software but the point is that I shouldn't have to bother with it because XP should be taking care of that side of things, like it did with the same camera on my old PC!

I've had a look at the Microsoft newsgroups and it would appear that this is a fairly common problem with little chance of a solution. Visit my ice hockey site at:
