I have client with SIP trunks where the caller ID with name does not show up on the phone display for incoming calls, but if gets a voicemail to email the caller ID with name info does show in the email. I think I've tested every combination of settings on the IPO and the carrier just says they are sending it and shrugs. Any ideas or insight?

Are there settings on the IPO that may impact this (I think I've tried every combination of settings so far), some undocumented No User source number, or is there some SIP format request change I can make to the carrier that might fix this?

IP500v2 7.0 (12) XCast Labs is the provider

Thanks

This is as it works on IP Office if the SIP provider sends contact info in the SIP header.
In version 8 you can choose to ignore this onfo.
Appearantly VM Pro is smarter as the IPO itself.

If it ain't dutch it ain't much

Thanks.

Just to clarify, by "choose to ignore this info" do you mean if I upgrade him to version 8 I can get the caller ID to display on the phone even if the contact info is sent in the SIP header?

Ragnorak,

This is not a problem inherent within the IP Office. All the SIP Provider's I've worked with have no problems displaying the name and the phone number on the display.

Which SIP Provider are you using?
Have you thought about changing (or at least testing) with another provider?

Is that name actually send by the provider or are you expecting a name lookup from the Directory?

I've seen situations where the provider actually sends the CLI twice, in both the number and name field. Pre-8.0 you would end up with no directory lookup because the name was already sent by the SIP trunk. From 8.0 onwards you can choose to 'Favor Directory' for name lookups.

Since the name shows up in the VM Pro voicemail to email (and the carrier said they are sending it) I figure they must be sending the name. But after testing every setting that seems like it could possibly apply the name still doesn't show on the phone display for incoming calls. The number shows up but not the name.

Intigrant's answer that this is expected behavior if the contact info is sent in the SIP header is explanation I was looking for. Now I'm just curious if I upgrade to 8.0 can I actually get the name to display even if they are sending the contact info in the header.

I've been through AVAYA tier III for this issue and the answer was as I posted earlier.
After contacting the SIP provider we have solved the problem by disabling the "Contact" info on the provider side.

If it ain't dutch it ain't much
