Has anyone had their customers complain about receiving calls from this phone number? When answered, its reported to be dead air. Seems to be sequentially dialing numbers in a NXX block although some individuals get several calls.

When dialed to, I get "the area code or telephone number as dialed is not valid, please check the number ...."

What can be done about this nuisance?

Contact your telco. The need to trace this if they can. Someone is outputting a flase number.

I am not sure about where you are, but in the Qwest area, the answer would be nothing. The issue is finding out what or who is actually making the call. Since your caller ID info has a number that is invalid, the caller is sending out that info to stop you from calling back to a "real" number.

I know that for our area, a call has to be a nusance or threating before the telco can get involved. Then they can put a "trap and filter" on your lines, capturing not only the CLID, but the ANI information of every call. Then you can match the calls up with the filter data to figure out who is calling. The only trick with this is the calls must be "more than 3 per week and violent and/or threatening in nature." If they are just hanging up, you really do not have any recourse, or that is what I was told.

There may be others with different suggestions and/or options. I would love to know if there are any options, since I know of none.

Good luck,

Scott M.

no your right, without a court order that information is hidden. i do know one company that sends that id, but can't share it on a public forum.. anyone can send that number after the provider agrees to send it. we send a unused dn, other wise we get 100's of return calls a day from people not knowing who called them
