We are increasingly being asked by our customers to provide outbound caller ID with name from individual departments within our organization.
We currently display one of a few generic names and the main number of our hospital on outbound calls.(CLID TABLE)
We have a Nortel Opt.81c hooked up to 5 primes.
Does the system have the ability to send individual's name and number outbound via the primes?
I would like to also get us set up with Inbound caller ID name and number. We currently only see the phone number from the outside call and for some situations we only see the trunk id.
Does the Option 81C have the ability to display the call info on inbound calls.
I know I will need to change some provisioning with the provider, but thought maybe our system doesn't have the ability??
Thanks for any insight.

The outbound caller ID name is provided by the LEC. Not the switch. I have only seen one name go out, but you can send out individual DID numbers.

Inbound Caller ID name can be done. I have seen it done at a customer site. The only thing is, when I was there, I didn't get the settings to do this. I kick myself everyday for not doing this.

I have not done it but Outbound CLID Name can be done, but there are good and bad things about it. One of our INNUA chapter members documented the steps of what is needed.

- ISDN PRI
- NI2, RCAP= NDS
- 25.40B minimum
- if you deny outging name on a set, it is denied for internal calls also
- only 15 characters of name sent to telco

if your sending your did to the carrier and they have your names in the ss7 table, it will display.. the pbx does not transmit ss7 data updates (yet),, but if i build a clid table with your main number, AND the carrier would accept it, your business name would display.. the carrier's maintain the ss7 and only accept clid from known subscribers, then does the ss7 lookup... keeps fraud down, if anyone with a switch could call people from a bank, or a credit card company etc.. telephone fraud would be larger then ebay..

i picked this up here from one on srmega's (scotts) post.. he was bid on the high end side of the business
