I have been requested to call forward a few phones to other extensions in the office. I added a call forward button on the phone and it does forward the call. but the voice mail goes to the original extension not the call forwarded station . thus making the user have to check both voice mail boxes. is there a method to have the originating call be answetred byu the call forwarded VMB?

can you either forward the call off-net to destination number. this will make the station think it is a new call and route it to vm.

or, depending on the vm your have, enter the forwarded station number in the secondary extension field of the forwarded to numbers mailbox. this will allow calls to both numbers to go into one mailbox.

thanks, tim

what is going on is this dept had to get all new extension numbers, so for a month until everyone start calling the new extension. I have to keep the old extension live, In trying to help them in not having to check their old vm box I wanted to forward all calls and voice mial to their new extension. making it a new call would eat up trunks as this location only had 6 co lines in their trunk group.

adding it as a secondary in the modular messaging voice mail is possible but i didnt want to have to delete their original vmb in order to add it as a secondary extension on the new extension. as you can not have identical extension in MM.. i was trying to find a temp work around , but it looks like my only course of action is to make the old extension a scondary on the new extension number

if the mailboxes are going to be for the same person on both numbers, i think the best thing would be to delete the old mailboxes and add them onto the new ones. if not, forwarding the calls off-net will allow calls to both numbers to go into the same mailbox.

thanks,tim

I agree the best ti sto delete the old boxes and make them secondary to the new extension

thank you for your help.

Convert the old extension to a vdn that points to a vector that routes to the new extension. In the vector you can also add an announcement that tells the caller they are being redirected to the new extension.

that is a good work around, and good idea. I decided to delete the old vmb and make them secondarys on the new extension.

Less work and it's Friday.

thank you for your great idea

Something that I did when people here were changing to another number was to have them put that message on their personel greetings.

Hi you have reached blah blah blah. My number has changed to xxx-xxx-xxxx but you can press 0 to be connected now. O being the covering extension on the subscribed form.

This get s the new number out and still gives the caller the ability to reach the person at the new number.

When is the last time you helped someone, just because you were able to?

For the best response to a question, read faq690-6594

on page 2 of the extension you will see a field 'coverage after forwarding'. depending on your system parameters.. you can try changing this to 'n' or 'y'. One of them will work. Meaning.. if you call forward an extension it will terminate at the remote end or at the original depending on where you want.

great suggestions I will try both on the next office next month

thank you both
