Call Forward No Answer should go to VM but isn't

I used to have a set plugged in at ext 3597. When I started working from home, I moved the set to a different ext for someone else to use. However, I still wanted to maintain my extension number/DID number. So currently, ext 3597 does not have a set plugged into it. All of the programming is still in place though. For example, Call Forward No Answer is set to delay of 4 and then forward to VM DN.

At first, this was working fine. However, lately, if I call my DID number, it just rings forever and never forwards to VM. Does a set have to physically be plugged in for Call Forward to take effect?

Since I'm remote 95% of the time, it will several weeks before I can get in to plug in a set and mess with it. I do however have a FastRAD on site and NRU available. I thought that turning on Call Forward (as in Feature 4) might work but I don't see any way to do this using NRU. Am I missing something? The bottom line... I just want calls to my DID number to go to my voice mail where I can get notified and then check at my convenience. Any ideas? Thanks

this forum is for nortel pbx, not northstar keysystems. in the pbx world marp that dn on an analog and use rcfw to control call flow. or build it as a maxp 1 acd in ld 23 to control that call flow from a dial up

when you unplugged the phone the system disables the port. You can build a Mailbox with your received digits and have Voice mail answer that Target line. The voicemail will match up the received digits with the mailbox and put the call there.

We are using 4 digit DNs. For DID we are receiving 3 digits. So my orig setup before unplugging the set was this...

voice mail DN = 3620

for target line 152
- received number = 597
- prime set = 3597

for set 3597
- line assignment = line 152 (appr & ring)
- call fwd no ans = 3620
- call fwd busy = 3620

I already have line 147 assigned to DN 3620 to allow direct access to VM from off site.

I attempted to simply unassign line 152 from DN3597 and then reassign it to DN3620. This sends call to AA and not to my mailbox though (just like line 147). Since our mailboxes are 4 digits and we're receiving just 3, I can't create a new mailbox with just 3 digits. Am I missing something?

P.S. This is a Startalk Flash VM system

Per your first post, you removed the actual phone from the port. This is the problem, and the easiest way for you to fix it is going to be to plug your phone back in, so that it will forward to VM correctly. If you are out of town, just have someone local plug it in. Any norstar phone will do.

There is no extra set available currently. Plus, I'm hardly ever in the office so it doesn't make sense to keep a set on-line that will never be used.

So I guess it comes down to a question of whether or not it's possible to have a DID number that goes directly to an individual mailbox, assuming the scenario mentioned above (4 digit DNs with 3 digits received on DID)

Is this doable?

Because of the (4 digit DNs with 3 digits received on DID,) I cannot answer your question, as I do not know. My guess is; No, it will not work.

My recommendation is to just buy a used Nortel phone. Other options include upgrading to call pilot which has express messaging lines.

Or, you can peruse the following posts to see what is involved to get it working with matching DN and target line length:

I have done this many years ago on a MICS DR5 and later.....Leave all the programming as is before you unplugged your phone except be sure target line 152 is primed to its own dn (3597). On the new extension, assign an answer dn of 3597 to appear & ring or just ring only (doesn't matter). On forward no answer, set the number of rings to 2 for extension 3597.Your new extension will still ring 4 times (or whatever it's currently set to) before going to the new mailbox and ext. 3597 will forward to it's own mailbox after 2 rings.

The key is to be sure that the forward no answer delayed ring for 3597 is set to less rings than what your new extension. I had a customer that needed DID/voicemail for his outside worker's who didn't have a phone and this was the best I could come up with.

Good Luck!
