Calculated field with a qualifier

I am sorry to be so obivous, but I can't get a cal. field in a query to work. I want Price: [rate]*[quatity] And [customer]=1
I have tried with 'And' and 'Where' it keeps on rejeting it. Sorry for being so obivous, I don't understand what I am missing. Thanks for the help
