Hi,

Sometimes I will calc a file and it takes a couple of minutes... However I picked up that same file today and now it takes 20Minutes. I had not made a change to the file and don't believe anyone else had. Has anyone experienced this and or know what the possible reasons for this behaviour is?

Thanks,

Chris

This is often caused by extraneous external links

have a search for .xls within your formulae

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Please read FAQ222-2244 before you ask a question

Ok thanks. - This worksheet has loads of external links...

If you just had one link. Could that cause the problem?

don't know to be honest - it's a bit trial and error really. I think you would still get a performance hit but not as much as with loads of links - The hit pr link would be higher though ie (times are illsutrative only)

20 links = 20 mins
1 link = 5 mins

I think it is more to do with how many different workbooks are linked to and where they are stored (network / local machine)

What about when I don't actually have access to the network drives which the links are pointing to?

that would be why it is taking so long to calculate !!!!
most of the time taken will be in trying to resolve permissions errors.....
