Grootings!

A beginner has a few questions on calculations for anyone willing to help.

Can I make the validation rule for a table an arithmetic expression with field names as operands? Tried this in the table properties expression builder,

Like so: [field1]=([field2]-[field3])*(.5)

In this case, field1 is blank, and I would like it to fill with the results of the calculation. The compliler looks for existing data in field1, treating the expression as a condition rather than a calculation, and as it finds no data in field1, the validation rule is violated, and i recieve an error.

Is there a different place to enter the same equation so that it will be treated as an arithmetic function? Or a better way to do this?

Thanks,

aperture

Hi Ap

Why store it all...if the calc is the same for every item, why waste valuable DB space with the info? Just diplay on the form or report as a calculated field. It is more efficient.
