When you play an online game or computer game, you are asked to download the game onto your computer. I assume it's to allow the computer to quickly access heavy files and graphics so that the game speed can be maintained on the fly.

Well...

I am building a VERY heavy graphic site for an on-line RPG guild. Since they are all members and the site is password restricted i wondered if there was some way that the members could download all the heavy graphics onto their hardrive, then when they view the website it would pop up fast regardless of the weight.

1> What is this procedure called? Caching??
2> Is it possible?
3> How do i go about doing this?

Hope someone can help me out?

Once a site has been visited, all the graphics will already be in the user cache the next time they look at the site.

For IE users this works fine, but when I'm using netscape I always have it set to check for new files on the net as the caching is crap.

I can't think of any way your website members will be able to keep the site indefintely in their local cache. What happens when they empty their cache? I do it on a regular basis.

I cna't come up with any user friendly options. Downloable zipped graphics? How about find a rpg specific forum and asking some of the main palters their?
