I use Promise cards on older computers to get the benefit if udma 5. However, the led cable that is needed to connect to the motherboard never comes with the card. Promise does not supply them, and I have no clue where to get one. I have checked a2zcables.com and they were no help at all. The connector on the MB is labled as SCSI, so I have been looking for a SCSI led cable. Does anyone know where to get one or have a suggestion for a place to look? Thank you in advance

echoecho,

I am getting a bit confused. The promise card
had to be connected to the mobo? A LED cable?
Either you or I is totally confused. Can you
describe a bit about the connector on the card
or the mobo.

It is a 4 pin on card to a 2 pin on MB. Two wires are used. I had a cable at one point, but I fried it when I hooked it up backwards.

To me, it seems that the led pin on the
mobo or the card should be connected to
LEDs instead of connected to each other.
Isn't this the way they should be?

dunno, if that was the case, what cable would that be?

LED connector on controller should be 2 sets of 2, either set should connect to the drive LED on the case instead of the LED connector on the M/B. Ed Fair

where would I find a cable like that?

Is there a HDD LED on your case? Normally has a 2 position molex connector and wires red and white. If it is long enough you move it from the M/B to the promise controller using 2 of the promise controller pins. If you need it to be longer, you can splice enough wire to extend it. If you want to indicate promise activity in addition to onboard activity you could use the turbo LED, which is ususally yellow and black.
You hook whichever one you use up to the promise and see if it works. If not, turn the connector around.
Case manufacturers have the cables made to order to fit the M/Bs they expect to have installed. You might find a repair shop that could save you a HDD cable from a junker case.
Or e-mail me. I can find one in my scrap stuff. Ed Fair

Thanks for the tips/advice. I'll try it tonight and see what I can find. Let you know.
