Hi

I'm in desperate need of help. I have a machine which, everytime an explorer window is opened (internet explorer, window explorer, control panel etc) a c++ runtime error appears stating :-

Buffer Overrun caused fatal error in program and must be terminated.

After this it just reloads the desktop. Office applications still work etc.

Any ideas???

Buffer Underruns and overruns are often the way hackers gain access to windows.

This is not to say this is happenning to you, follow faq779-5240.

It is likely you have a BHO(Browser Help Object) installed that is causing the problem. These can be legitimate such as the google toolbar, or nasty such as the mysearch toolbar.

thanks for the info... i did a little bit of research and came up with similar info. I managed to fix the problem as well. It was indeed the dreaded spyware that was causing the error.

I burned a copy of Spybot search & destroy (available to download free) to cd and installed it through START\RUN (could not open explorer to click the .exe due to the error)

This seived out small amount of spyware on the machine and deleted it. Machine worked fine afterwards...

Spybot seemed to be the perfect quick fix... I'm pretty certain it's freeware as well...
