C drive partitioned

some how my c drive had partitioned in to another drive..so I have a C local drive and a D local drive how can I combined them back...

More information about the computer is needed. Some computers are being shipped by the 'brands' with a D: partition or hidden partition containing the Restore/Recovery files and you DON'T want to lose that.

Something like partition magic will combine them. But it seems odd that it could happen without human intervention.
