Hi,

We are trying to program an Avaya station set for an operator. The station set needs to have the ability to check whether a station is busy or not. The attendant console software is not an option. Is there a feature key we can program similar to the nortel world, that when you press it, you can enter an extension and it will tell you whether or not the extension is busy?

Thanks.

Need more info. What phone are you using for the operator. If its a 302 console buy a DSS that will give you busy indicators for every station. If you are using a digital set use "busy XXXX" as a hard button.

It can't be the 302 console - it has to be either a digital set or an IP set - specifically 2400, 4600, or 6400 series.

What feature will the "Busy" button give? Is the programming easy? I apologize for the lack of specifics but we are covering for the telecom guys which don't know the answer.

You can set up a busy-ind button, where you enter the extension of the station you which to monitor. On a 64XX set, the button will light red when the station is in use. It also acts as a speed-dial button to that station number.

cain06.

Just like I said. Add a hard button to any digital phone (or IP phone) "busy XXXX". It is that easy.

Can this feature key be programmed to be accessible through a dial macro e.g. *
Code:
4000 to change the busy status to monitor 4000.

The operators will be using TAPI to automate transfers and what not and if we could automate the changing of the station monitored through some sort of dial macro - it would make their lives easier.

Basically, calls will ring in for a particular person. They will use TAPI to answer the call and after they answer the call we want to be able to see if the person they are calling for is on the line. So we would want to automate the changing of the device monitored. I've done feature keys for other things such as call pickup, so I know it can be done - just not sure if it can be done with this feature.

302 consoles and the software are out of the picture. We are trying to hack togther a comparable solution. Any thoughts?

I honestly don't think what you're asking can be accomplished. A 302 Console with a DSS or a 6424D+ with an XM 24 would probably give you the best station DSS coverage.

Let me ask everyone this - can the 302 console be used with TAPI (via the IP SoftPhone)?

I just tried it on my IP SoftPhone, and it cannot.

Have you considered PC Console? I know you mentioned earlier that you can't consider that, but for what you're asking to accomplish your options are limited.

The center doesn't want to use the old 302 with a DSS or the pc console...they want to use the newer digital sets and have some way to tell if stations are busy.

I'm going to explore the busy key option or possibly a busy verify button.

Thanks for everyone's help.
