I entirely randomly found a folder on my hard drive tonight containing about 7 gigs worth of files that are named with the convention "cluster ####.[various normal filetype extensions]" for example:

cluster 2023.HTML
cluster 2026.HTML
cluster 317323.EXE
cluster 317628.BMP
cluster 319128.XLS

Each file is exactly 1,440KB in size and was created one morning in September of 2007 between 5:30 and 6:00 AM. Obviously whatever process did this took a little while to run.

I'm not sure what to make of it, so I figured I'd ask if anyone's ever seen anything like this?

It kind of reminds me of the results of a CHKDSK recovery or an undelete of some kind, but I haven't run any of those in recent memory. Certainly not within the past 3 years. Haha ... actually, maybe a good old fashioned check disk wouldn't be a bad idea.

Anyway, any ideas would be well appreciated.

Thanks!
Ian

Sounds exactly what you said, either a CHKDSK or another program which had checked the HDD at one time...

possibly a BACKUP software, the filesize is that of a formatted Floppy...

Sounds like the result of a BSOD and resultant disk check if I am honest. You probably came in to find the machine reset and didn't think anything of it at the time.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.
