Bulk insert not inserting any data

I created a bulk insert both as a query and a DTS package to import data from an excel spreadsheet. I also created a format file since there are fewer columns in the spreadsheet than in the destination table. When I execute either one, they both give a message that they were completed sucessfully, but no data is inserted into the table. I'm at a loss as to what could be wrong. Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
