hi everyone

im planning to set-up a new pc, but right now i want to focus more in the CPU parts... as of now i bought a ati radeon HD 5770, anything you guys can recommend me in some CPU parts? i have $1000 budget :) and also i live in LA maybe you guys recomend me some stores?'

thanks

This is too general a question. You need to state what you're going to do with the PC and whether you're leaning toward AMD or Intel, etc.

OK....general question...general answer:

I think you should be looking at an:
Intel i5 motherboard from MSI/Asus/Gigabyte/Intel
Quad core i5 CPU
Good aftermarket heatpipe cooler 120mm fan
Samsung 1TB F3 SATA hard drive
Corsair/OCZ/Kingston/GSkill/ 2 X 2gig DDR3 1600
Quality midi case (coolermaster/Lianli etc)
Seasonic, Corsair, Antec, Enermax, Zalman 550watt or higher power supply
Sony/LG/NEC/LiteOn/Samsung DVDRW

Won't go far wrong.

I agree with going for the new iCore series: they're fast, efficient. cool with low power demand.

I like Asus and Gigabyte mobos too, though MSI and Intel mobos are good too. There doesn't seem to be a huge performance margin betwee the top makes of mobos and looking for the on board features is a good guide.

A 450W PSU from one of the leading suppliers should be sufficient for the power demands of the ICore and HD5770, and a modular supply may help keeping the internal cabling and layout neat and tidy.

I like Antec cases but there are many really good cases around. I also favour GSkill, Corsair and Crucial memory.

I'd go with a refurbished or off-lease machine: XP, 2.66GHz Pentium IV, 2GB RAM - a real workhorse, steady and reliable. Plus a money saver.

Here's the point. If you don't say what you're going to do with the machine, it's hard to make a recommendation. Like buying a car - do you want basic transportation or something that you can go auto-crossing with on the weekend.

For sure! Spring is just around the corner. If you wait long enough, you can probably pick up a real keeper at a "yard sale" or "garage sale" or whatever folks do where you life! [wink]

Please tell us some more detail - budget, what you plan to do with it, any preferences about anything to do with your computer, etc..

Oh, and by the way, I can definitely seriously vouch for the Core i5 CPUs specifically. I just recently built a new setup for someone with one of those, and my oh my is that one nice setup! If I had money to burn right now, I'd just up and build myself one to replace my Core 2 Duo. But the C2D is an excellent setup itself, I think.. okay, now I'm meandering off into the tree line... I'll hush... it's after 5pm here! [smile]

Hi

Go to this link and look at the specs for the basic Falcon Northwest Talon. Select Talon, Select Configure.

It will show you all the parts that they use.

I have two friends who have these, and I have a somewhat more powerful FNW myself. Both of them can't stop raving about how fast and reliable they are.

Just look at the specs, I don't see any reason that you couldn't build this yourself within your price limit since their price is in the $1,500 range.

So, I suppose llj143 wasn't too serious in seeking advise.... or something just came up. Either way, no response/feedback/additional details... hopefully they just forgot about it..
