Hi,

At work we have a W2k Server connected to a BT Broadband box ( Not a good choice but apparently the servers there to stay ). In the BT manual it says to de-activate the Servers DHCP, which we did and everything works fine. At another of our small branches we left the DHCP on the server running to see what it would do, and this also works fine.
We now have a small number of computers that we would like to have static IP addresses for. We got the Server DHCP going and told it to exclude this range of IP addresses and everything looked okay, but when we try and set the static IP addresses to this small group of computers we're told the IP addresses are allready taken.

Is there an easy way of checking wether the BT box is acting like a DHCP server? Apparently someone has checked the W2K server and it lists the IP addresses its given out, or thats been given out and the excluded range is being given out. If the BT box is giving out dynamic IP addresses does anybody have any ideas how to get the little beast to play ball? or do you reckon we've just left out something when setting up the excluded range on the W2K?

Cheers

Telling the Win2k server to exclude a certain address range would only affect the server, not the BT router. Best to either turn the server's DHCP off and contact BT to find out how to adjust the router's DHCP scope, or better yet figure out how to disable the router's DHCP, get it going on the server, and then adjust the scope to leave you room to assign some fixed IP addresses. I'd pursue the latter, as I prefer my routers route and my servers serve. :)

Thanks for the tip, I'll have a go at doing the latter then.
