Ok...So I think I might have determined an error that has been plaguing me for a long long time. I had Win2K on my Abit BE6, P3 450 (OC'd to 540), 256 MB of RAM, TNT2, blah..blah..blah..seemed to work fine. Somwhere Along the way, wither an SP or NVIDIA driver upgrade hosed the system. Not seriously, WIN2k would freeze..usually during the fade effect. DAMN!

So...I tried different drivers...no luck.
Put in a new PCI NIC and firewire IEEE1394 card...no luck
- Though I did not anticipate these additions to change anything anyways. The fade error would come even if I rolled back the overclocking factors on both vcard and cpu. So...then I read that there are some issues with the older TNT2 cards in Win2k...though I did not have problems early on..I guess as hotfixes and new drivers come into play - a conflict.

So...I went and bought a ASUS 7100 Pro Geforce 2 MX 400. Great speedy card for a pretty good price. Guess what...no more freezes...BSOD's! I get all sorts of them - at least one a day...all while the systems has been OC'd. I changed things last night and believe that these changes may have eliminated the different errors:

KMODE errors
IRQ not less or equal errors.

According to a site that someone posted here, these errors are most likely related to driver problems...but I have also rolled back the overclocking and hope that this might cure it...so far so good.

BUT HERE IS THE MAIN CHANGE THAT I SUSPECT WILL MAKE THE DIFFERENCE. SINCE THERE SEEMS TO BE A CONSENSUS THAT DRIVERS ARE THE ISSUE - I AM TRYING THE NEW DETONATOR XP DRIVERS. NO OVERCLOCKING...

IF IT STAYS STABLE FOR A DAY - I WILL START OVERCLOCKING AGAIN AND SEE IF IT REMAINS STABLE...

THOUGHTS?

IT IS THE NIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Put back the crappy ISA NIC and perfect...
