Having problems with NRS when trying to get to the Tools > Configuration menu item. We are getting "Problems with this web page" popup indicating problems with a jscript specific line of code.

Now, according to our Nortel tech, he is saying that KB918899 has to be removed to fix the problem.

I don't know if this came from official Nortel channels or where he got the info. I've got machines that are not experiencing the issue, that I know don't have this hotfix installed yet. Also have a machine that has it, but for whatever reason is not having problems (could be 1.4.x version of J2RE instead of 1.5.x or it also has the MS JVM).

I also have that kind of problem with Element Manager with only one SS after an upgrade has been done. Element Manager doesn't use Java indeed. Not like NRS.

I get warning windows on that SS but everything runs fairly well. I guess i should have to run install software again...

It has been said to my ear that upgrading the java client has fixed this problem at one of our customers. Have you tried to upgrade your java to 1.5? Is IE configured with a proxy?

FYI. I can't find anything at nortel's knowledgebase regarding KB918899.

The machines we are having problems with have JRE 1.5.6 (I think the latest is 1.5.8). The tech first blamed it on our network, then later found out the other techs in his company were having problems too.

I have a feeling that NRS uses jscript; if you read the MS Knowledgebase, this patch causes a jscript security issue. A short 'net search found IBM having similar issues with a product of theirs.

I will try upgrading the JRE to the latest version.

There are problems with Java & you do need to be using Microsoft Explorer 6. I've seen the same problems, but on different computers accessing the same Sig Server.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

NRS and Element Manager dont need Java to be installed on your local client. IE 6 is prefered and check also ur security settings for Element Manager Page (inclusive Pop-Up Blocker). I would suggest to put Element Manager Page to ur trusted sites and allow all of the security settings. The Hotfix KB918899 is also a possible matter why the things dont work out. Every system i did check so far had a Problem if that Hotfix is installed ( But all that systems did use IE version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2.......

hope that will lead u to the right direction....

FYI; I tested this on a couple of different windows xp boxes, and on all the PCs it didn't matter what version of Java I was running. What enabled me to use NRS again was removing KB918899. After that "presto" worked like a charm.

Hello Folkes,
probably that is the Problem:
After having Installed the latest security update(MS-06-042 Patch 918899) from Microsoft
on Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server. Launch NRSM from the same PC and try
to service change the NRS using the web Browser. User cannot switch to
Stand-By database to make changes, nor can backup or restore the database.
When user performs any of the above operation, a java script error is thrown
to the user saying "Permission Denied" and blank page is displayed without
any information. Also when user tries to view Routing Entries also same error
is thrown.

Solution: Install Patch MPL22473 on your Sigserver

Also it's been said we have to enable --> internet options --> General Tab --> Browsing history Settings --> "Every time I visit the web page"
