I was informed by a senior BO developer that she could not bring into a report MVGs (Multi Value Group) from an intersection table. Could someone please explain if this is an issue?
Thanks in advance,
BB
I can think of all sorts of definitions of a intersection table, but can you explain what you mean with it or give us an example of it, as well as telling how many Data-providers are involved, dimensions , local variables..... T. Blom

If what you are talking about is grouped variables in a crosstab, then you have bad information. You can easily do this. Steve Krandel

Sorry I did not have all the information when I posted my question.
Our company is changing over from Business Objects to Cognos. The developer in Business Objects made the comment that BO would not bring in the data from the intersection table. I'm not familiar with the terminology used in BO.
In Cognos Impromptu, if the data is available in a table, there are alternate methods to bring in the data. From the intersection table (or any table), the joins would determine how the data comes into the reports (speaking in reference to Cognos). (Could also be brought in as a hotfile if the data wasn't in a table). When creating the reports, the data can be associated, grouped, etc., until you have what you want.
Same goes for BO, you can set sections, apply breaks or create new group variables or grouping in groups to get what you want, but BO <> Cognos , that is for sure.... T. Blom

To clarify, BO more or less operates the same was as Cognos, correct? If the data is available in a table you should be able to bring it into a report?
Thanks,
Becky
actually, a table is an object IN a report (in BO). The table is created from the cube that BO creates based on the query that is fired at the source.(most of the times through a semantic layer, the universe...)
I think Cognos will get you there too, but with a twist....
(and terminology of its own as you can see...) T. Blom

Thanks so much for your responses. I was confident the data could be brought into the report (although some manipulation/thought process might be required).
