We recently put in an Exchange 2003 server. I have 2 issues with Brightstor backups that CA hasn't been able to help me resolve.

1. Force a full information store backup nightly (the rest of my job is a differential). I have made the recommended registry change on the backup server (in fact it worked under exchange 5.5!). I still get a differential with exchange 2003.

2. I am having a terrible time with brick level backup and performance. CA is advising me that it's the Symantec API getting in the way. Due to the HUGE amount of viruses we receive, I am not agreeable to shutting down NAV during a backup.

What have other people done about these 2 issues? I have a friend who is a big Veritas fan - - he says I would never have these issues with Veritas, however, I am not sure I want to invest in Veritas software /cutover at this time.

thank you

By best recommendation is BAB 11.0 with the Enhanced Exchange Agent.

As for BackupExec not having these problems I have seen the same complaint on Bricks Level throughput with BackupExed. It is not exempt from that problem by any means.

The Enhanced Agent on the other had has two big advantages.
1) It will backup data only one time, instead of with each mail.
2) It can run multiple backups of the same Exchange server at the same time.
