I'm having problems with Brightstor Enterprise Backup version 10.5 (build 2681) where two jobs keep crashing every night. The first job which backs up the local machine, crashes as soon as it begins. The other job which backs up several other nodes, does so (the backup runs for a while), then crashes at some point.

There are no errors in the activity log. It just shows the job starting, then the job going to a Hold status with a last result of "Crashed". Restarting services and repackaging the job hasn't helped. There are no related entires in the system or application event log.

If I look at the tskept.log files, the last one shows the following:

Task Engine Exception Handler Ver 1.0
Exception Time : Thu Jun 22 11:06:22 2006
Exception Cause : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (attempting to read)
Exception Flags : Noncontinuable exception
Exception Address : 77f486f7h
DLL/Exe that caused GP: C:\Program Files\Computer Associates\BrightStor\EB\ASBACKUP.DLL (From STACK Trace)

Log files before then show a range of DLL's causing the GP, including ntdll.dll, several oracle DLLs, and another CA one:

C:\Program Files\Computer Associates\BrightStor\EB\ca70mt.dll

(This problem has been recurring for a while it seems).

I have tried enabling debug mode per a FAQ on this site, but I can't seem to locate the BrightStor.log file it is supposed to create? (Doesn't appear on C:\ drive where BrightStor is installed).

Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing the problem and/or a solution? Thanks!

For other people who may experience this problem in future, uninstalling then reinstalling the Open Files agent seems to have resolved the issue.
