Brightstor Arcserve Formatting

Is there an option that I can use to Format my backup tape before every backup job? I keep getting a media not found error and if I format the tape before the job, the job runs find.

Depends on your version - if you are using r11.0 or later you could use the Job Scheduler wizard to set up a repeating erase command at a time of your choosing.

or a Pre command with tapetest if it is a stand alone tape drive or chgtest if it is a library.

pre commands which require device management won't (or shouldn't) work in more recent versions, this was changed sometime during ARCserve 2000 as it you used to be able to do it.
