This is not really my area (more of networking slave, but hey it's all electric and wires as I keep getting told), but it's been dumped on me, so please bear with me if some terminology is incorrect.

Our Maintainer has installed a BRI card into the Option 61 and has terminated it into out main TN wiring blocks. However I need to get it to go over Cat5 cabling to terminate into a FAX server (hence a pc card). I have no problem doing analogue and Meridian phones but ISDN is new one on me.

I've obtained some pinouts elsewhere, but how the heck do I know which is which in the wiring block. Also will it cause damage wiring it to the card directly without going via one of the NTE boxes normally associated with BRI lines?

This is the pinouts I have is but which end is which.

One end
1
2
3 RX+
4 TX+
5 TX-
6 RX-
7
8

Therefore guessing other end
1
2
3 TX+
4 RX+
5 RX-
6 TX-
7
8

Thanks for any help

to find the wireing block you'll need to know the tn's that are being used for the bri, and no problem with doing a direct connect from the wireing block to the term device

i have BRi going over CAT5 no probs
here in the UK we use the blues & greens
then cat5 patch cables to route it to the req'd position
no crossovers needed

Thanks for the help so far, some worries have been put to rest. In the TN blocks, in a pair, what is positive and what is negative. I know the TN numbers so locating them is not a problem. Just don't want to get the wiring mixed up.

Thanks again.

the primary side is +, the top or the white of the white blue,,, tip side, and not to worry if they are reversed, they just don't work, can't smoke the card unless you place outside voltage back into the switch.. i would (if possible) connect the device in the switchroom, testm then try to extend, it will make it eaiser to isolate any layre 1 problem

In the ISDN-BRI NTPs there are wiring layouts and diagrams; as soon as I get back to my own PC in a bit I can find it and give you the NTP and page number(s) if you like... We are running BRI, u-interface here in the states; I think most everyone else uses S tho... -Matt

Thanks so far, but I think I need it dumbing down a bit more as I still can't get it to work.....
I'm in UK connecting to a ISDN Fax Card in a server.
The Meridian and wiring blocks are in different room to servers.
Here's where I need it dumbing down.
I'm looking at the wiring block TN's 16 1 2 0-4 & 5-8.
I need to get the line over CAT 5. Here are my questions (done for my benifit as much as anyone elses)
You have 10 punch downs / block and I know the last 2 are never used.
In what order would I have to punch down the cables and what colours.

e.g G in 1st slot , GW in 2, B in 3, BW in 4 etc.

Sorry to have to have it like this but I really have no Idea how to set this up (and neither has anyone I work with).

Thanks once again.
