Hi there, I've spent ages reading all of the Font related posts but have not yet seen this issue I'm having.

I can use, view and delete all currently installed fonts. However, if i try to install any new font by pressing "Install new font" and browsing to the location, the fonts do not display in the window. If i use Windows Explorer to find the .ttf and then double click on it. I get an error message saying "This is not a valid font file".

I know that the files are in the location i browse too.

I know that these fonts work as it is installed on over 20 other PCs running Win98se, and over 100 on Win2K.

I'm as sure as i can be that this PCs software is set-up identically to others that work, although the hardware may be differant.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong??

I would appreciate any suggestions, Not upgrading the O/S :)

Cheers

Mike

you've been pretty detailed, but not quite enough..if you can - please answer.
1] are the fonts on another drive? - network??
2] is the Font Folder Read Only?
3] is the font currently in use by another app? - user?

try Opening the font for view - starting the App up and then Selecting it "while" the font remains Open to view, so it's only available when the App needs it (just to test, not as a permanent Fix)
oh and the Fonts folder has a Max of 1000 or so...(it's actually the REG)......so my above porocedure would enable one to usae AS MANY fonts as they like (just have to Install/KEEP them elsewhere besides the C:\WINDOWS\Fonts folder)

Hello TT4U, Yes, the fonts are on a network drive and no, the fonts aren't in use by another application or user. The font directory doesn't seem to be read only.

When i open the font for view, i get an error message "This is not a valid font file". However, i know that it is a valid file as i can install it on other PCs with the same O/S.

We only have 202 fonts currently installed.

Regards

Mike

However, if i try to install any new font by pressing "Install new font" and browsing to the location, the fonts do not display in the window.

this also happens to me on a win98se box when i try installing a font from a mapped network drive. what i do is i just cancel the "add fonts" dialog box then i "install new font" again. i dunno why but the second time i do this, the font will be shown and will allow me to install it even if it comes from a mapped network drive.

hope this helps. peace! [peace]

SgtPepps;
could it be a permissions issue? on your box? - for safety sake, maybe the Admin has disallowed installation of "anything" over the Network, or perhaps just System folders?
