I had a customer's computer and the .reg extension does not work in her computer...O'boy did I clean a butt load of virus's,adware, and spyware out of her computer...I did a reinstall/repair too with (SMACK...my forehead) no luck on the .reg problem.

the computer is now running great and that is the only issue with it.

just for info one of the hijackers had disabled explorer.exe in safe mode so explorer.exe shut down every time in safe mode....I did get that issue fixed

These adware schemes are getting mean....they install their adware crap(they use a page that says you have spyware on your machine click here) then want money for their adaware removal software to remove their crap.

that is so cheesy

but, for now all I need help is to figure out the .reg extension.......

When you get this resolved you might also want to scan for rootkits. They are the next wave of nasties.

Yea, I did a scan of rootkits and had no issues there. I would have reloaded windows and done a clean new install but its a little old ladies computer and she did not want much changed (set in her ways). I did fix the computer so it would not have these issues again. (customer is the final say....most of the time)

I used to love Norton. But, I fix so many computers these days that have Norton...I have all but given up on Norton.

I put in all my clients computers now days is the free home version of Avast. and the free version of A-squared, Spyware Blaster and MS antispyware. sometimes I use pestpatrol, and spybot search & destroy.
I also use BHO Demon (1.0 & 2.0), highjack this, spyware guard, and cwshredder

not too mention I also search the system files manually

it is real bad when I have to use ALL of the above.

I had fixed all the other issues on the computer such as disabled task manager& regedit, lockout of my computer , and lockout of control panel.

but I have not been able to get the .reg setting to register or make changes changes. though the registry looks correct for the .reg extension. and you can make changes manually in the registry
I can run .com, .exe, and .bat with no issues (.reg in the .bat files do not work). but, .exe files can install software with no issues.
though as I remember I also had a minor issue with .vbs files...I did update her Visual Basic Runtimes

Do you have the correct file association? .reg=regfile
Go to a command prompt and type ASSOC without parameters to display the current file associations.
To correct the file association, type ASSOC /? for help.

What error message, if any, are you getting?

its not getting any error message.
.reg just does absolutly nothing at all when clicked
I have to wait for the holidays to end before I can get a hold of her computer to do anything more to it.

as for now

HAPPY NEW YEARS!
