Hi,

Networker 7.1 is installed on 2 servers. We perform savegrp -G TESTGP on both servers, and one of them don't make bootstrap. Why the other one did bootstrap, is there any setting we should check?

thanks.

the bootstrap is created only when you backup the (or part of) Networker server. I guess one of those 2 servers is the NW server and the another one is just a client.

Cheers.

The both were client and it is strange that one of them did the bootstrap.

sorry for delay...

did you get something weird in the logs? some error?

I see you start 2 differents groups... so I acan see that the server sumtbkp1 is the NW server, and the another one is a client as a storage node (or SAN storage node).

So server A (prdrel) is not backing up the server sumtbkp1, just portailweb, so no bootstrap is backed up.

Cheers.

Are you sure that you did not install one of the clients as a backup server? Like Chacalinc said, the bootstrap is only backed up when the backupserver is backed up. Either sumtbkp1 is a backupserver, or you have a serious name resolution problem, where sumtbkp1 is mistaken for the actual backupserver prdrel (never seen it though). Check the Aliases field of prdrel and make sure you don´t have any other names present.

On sumtbkp1 i would suggest you check the running prcesses after nsrd.exe. That´s the server process, if it´s running on sumtbkp1 you have installed it as a server.

Hope it helps!

Cheers!

I think I must clarify a little bit the problem for your comprehension..

We have 2 NW backup server: (A)prdrel and (B) sumtbkp1
On both server, we perform backup of a client
(server) (client)
prdrel ==> portailweb only
sumtbkp1 ==> appexcg only

And every client backed up in sumtbkp1 produced a bootstrap..

The other key factor is whether the NW server's client is a member of an ACTIVE (enabled) group.

If not, the NW server will run a bootstrap with EACH savegrp command (with each group). The reason is simple: If the server's backup is not scheduled to run at least once a day (when 'his' group is run), the server will use any chance (i.e. any group) to create a bootstrap. This is obviously what you see here.

The bootstrap save set is generated ONLY when backup is started by "Networker Server Schedule" and controlled By netWorker server.
Stotage Nodes don´t save bootstrap on device connected locally and backup started by client don´t generate bootstarp save set

Bye.
