Hi Guru's,

I have a little problem with one our LPAR, we had the Firmware level upgraded on our P590 to SF240_284, we have 8 LPAR's all at the same OS level, 7 of them came back online OK after the firmware upgrade apart from one, this one LPAR hangs after ctrms process has started and the NFS Completed. I have managed to get it into Maintenance mode and accessed the rootvg volume group, I then commented out "rcnfs", "ctrms" and a couple of customer entries out in /etc/inittab (they where the last entries in /etc/inittab) but still the boot process hangs?

Has any of you experinced this before and if so how did you get around it?

Thanks in Advance
Germo

Do you have any error code on the HMC ?

I had problems after microcode update but with linux not with aix

Terry,

Is it just not getting through to the login stage? Can you ping it and get access via telnet/ssh?

Baker Boy,
Nice to hear from you.

No I can't ping it or telnet to it

Gloups,
There is no error code on the HMC

Thanks

Hmm, My first thought was the console device not being configured correctly - would not be set correctly in /etc/inittab. What does /etc/inittab look like?

I'd check and see if there is any difference in the setup of the LPARS that do boot and the one that doesn't. Especially the LPAR profiles.

I've seen servers doing the same stuff when using the IBM-furnished "use-all-resources" LPAR profile to fire it up.

Is the system part of a cluster? If so, is there a serial cable connected that could be interrupting the boot sequence?

I only bring this up because it happened to me once.

Thanks all,

I have managed to correct it now. The problem was that the "cons:0123456789" entry was not in the inittab. Plus the server was on a private internal network and the server name on the HMC was incorrect was totalling threw us all.

Thanks.
