I just installed XP Pro on a new PC. When I boot it up, it first comes up with "Invalid System Disk". I hit the escape key and it continues to boot up normally.
My boot.ini:

[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Pro" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

I suspect I changed something accidently in the boot.ini.
I only have one installation of XP on my PC even though it somehow it's listed twice. Can somehelp help? Thanks.

It looks ok, even though there are 2 installations of xp on 2 different parttions. Could there be a floppy disc in you drive?

Does the error stop if you set the hard drive as the 1st boot device in the bios?

You could try and replace what you've got in your boot.ini with the following:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Pro" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

It seems to me that the second option is the valid option to boot XP. Therefore, I have changed the default (1) to (2) in the third line of the text to reflect this. I have also changed the timeout value to 30 to give you chance to select an option.

Well now it appears to be working. It seems like it was trying to boot off the CD even though I was not asking it to boot from the CD. I'll just keep an eye on it - thanks for the replys.
