Hello,

I have a windows 2000 server. And i recently had to reboot the server, and i had an "NTLOADER" error, i discovered this was due to the "Boot.ini" file being missing. So i copied another boot.ini file to the server, and this resolved the problem. Now it seems every time i re-boot the server the Boot.ini file disapears? And i have to re-copy the file over again.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

There's no process that should delete the file. It seems like it's either something viral or perhaps there is some disk corruption. To make sure the integrity of your disk is good, I'd run "chkdsk /f" on your c: drive.

I read somewhere that one way to outfox disk corruption, if there is any, is to create the boot.ini file again like you did, then rename that file to 'boot.bad' or something. Then make a copy of that file and rename it to 'boot.ini'. The copy will be written in a different disk location than the first file. I would also check after your next reboot to see if either file is missing, and if something is missing, which is it? At least you may still have the boot.bad file to copy from if things didn't work out.

I'd also make sure the file is set to read-only and system before you do another reboot.
