Hi all I have a strange one here for you. Im repairing an Olivetti PC with Win98. The pc was working okay (lack of hard space) I opened the pc up to check the drive bay, I put the case back together and then started it up and the message (searching for boot record from floppy..not found drive not ready insert boot diskette) keeps comming up this is beyond me. Cheers

Based on your actions I wonder if you've jarred one of the connections on the HD, so it's not being seen during POST. I'm not familiar with this model, does it display the attached devices during boot? Try going into BIOS and move the HD to the top of the boot order.

I have the ide as the 1st boot device and the floppy as the second boot.

If that's so, then it's looking right past the HD for some reason. Were you able to verify the cable connections? One is for the power, one is the IDE connector, if either are not secure, it ain't gonna work. Do you hear the HD spin up when you turn it on?

Okay I've just attached a different hard drive and still the same message.

goreyhill, you may check out the HDD cable connection not only at the HDD's end, but at the mobo's. Is it installed correctly?

Thanks all, it turned out to be the cable !!! Dont no why
